One of the most rewarding views on the island of Oahu

Pu'u Ohulehule - January 31, 2015 One of the most rewarding hikes on the island, Pu'u Ohuluhule on a clear day rivals any view on this island. Darren wanted to take Sarah and Bernice on this hike for the past two weeks, but cancelled because of bad weather. I was able to hike today, so earlier in the week I posted to see what hike we would schedule, this one came up as the #1 option. Although I wouldn't mind doing Ohulehule, I have done this hike multiple times already and really didn't want to do it again. But since none of OAG have done it, I was game to go. Today's hike consisted of OAG ~ Darren, Sarah, and Bernice. Also joining was Katie and Ryan. We met at the Kahana parking lot at 8am. We saw Scott B. and his friend Mike. I jokingly asked Darren did you invite Scott? He laughed. Must have been a coincidence, Scott would do Ohuluhule the same time as us. As we started, everyone looked at me for guidance because I was the only one who did the hike befor...

Pupukea-Laie was not the same this time

Pupukea-Laie II - January 5, 2015 This hike was meant for the OAG's to experience the Northern section of the KST. Many of the OAG's haven't hiked in the northern section of the KST. All of them have done Poamoho, Pupukea, Laie, but the Northern KST is a whole nother story. To do this section takes an internal love for hiking that not too many people can find within themselves. It is also confusing as hell and no matter how much times you do it, getting lost is always a possibility.  Today we planned on a 10 hour hike, it turned out much longer than that. Joining the hike was all OAG's today ~ Erik, Aprille, Darren, & Sarah. I knew Erik & Aprille would find this hike rewarding as they requested it. I thought Darren & Sarah would enjoy the company of the rest, but I knew they were just tagging along for the ride. I love the northern sections of the KST. Not only is it very historical and goes back to pre-World War I history, it provides a great challenge fo...

Revisiting Piliwale

Piliwale-Lulumahu - January 2, 2015 This hike was intriguing for 2 reasons 1) I get to have a chance to do Lulumahu Ridge 2) Hike with Heather again. Back in about 2011-12, someone cleared Lulumahu Ridge to K1. Whoever did it worked extremely hard as its not an easy ridge to clear. I also get to hike with Heather again, she has been on hiatus for about 1 year. Last time I hiked with her was in 2013 when we did the epic hike Waiahole-Manana. Heather and I have this running joke that I'm the imaginary friend of Marvin. In the good old days I use to hike with Marvin a lot, and then Marvin use to hike with Heather a lot. My name came up in conversation during those hikes. Marvin the good man he is use to schedule hikes where Heather and I would meet. But I would bail on all of those hikes. Heather started to think I was Marvin's imaginary friend. The joke would continue on facebook, until we finally did a hike in 2013. Heather did quite a bit of running in 2013-14, so I saw her a f...
