Hiking Trails on Oahu

  Kipapa to Schofield-Waikane – June 14,15 2013 First of all, the initial plan was to get to Papali-Uka, but that didn’t happen. It is apparent that this route was for the grinders. Knowing what we know now, starting from Manana and getting to Papali would have been a three day thing or a two full day excursion. What we experienced was two 10+ hour hiking days and it was a hard 10+ hours for both days.  The plan today was to start on Manana drop into the valley towards Iliahi ridge, then drop into the valley towards Waiawa, and drop into the valley again towards Kipapa. From Kipapa, we would make the long hike up to the Ko’olau Summit, then to Waiahole Uka, crossover to Waikane, and then all the way to the Poamoho Cabin where we would set up camp. Waikane to Wahiawa – December 17, 2012 It is possible to go from the windward side to the leeward side in one day, not only one day, but shoot, 8 hours. I’m not talking about Mariner’s to Tom Tom or Kamiloiki to Tom Tom, but a real windward to leeward hike. Today was a mini grinder. The goal was to go from Waikane Valley to Ka’aumakua, back track, then take the Ko’olau Summit trail to Schofield-Waikane, ending up in Wahiawa. We projected that this hike would take 8-9 hours and we were right! I met Erik at his house at 8am, from there; we picked up Marvin in Manoa, and then drove to Waikane Valley Road. I parked on Kamehameha Hwy, we got ready, and then we were off. Schofield-Waikane - July 10. 2011 *for this hike get permit from the military at Schofield's East Range I did two important things on this hike. 1) I completed my first Advanced hike 2) I completed my first hike with the Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club (HTMC). These were two objectives of mine and they were done at the same time. I do need 2 more hikes with the HTMC to become a member. I've had my eye on the HTMC scheduled hikes for sometime now. The HTMC is Oahu's hiking club since the early 1900s. They do a hike every week, nearly all of their hikes are interesting. The initial goal of the HTMC was to find old Hawaiian trails. I digress, the question I would ask myself time and time again was, "Who would go on Schofield-Waikane with me?". After many hours of thinking the answer I came up with was, "no one, I would know of".
