Hiking Trails on Oahu

Waihe'e Illumination - February 19, 2016 Erik has been the biggest supporter of this event. Glow sticks down a waterfall and shooting long exposure to capture streaks. Erik set the time at 5:00pm, but since we were all working, we would meet at Waihe'e falls at random times. After work, I drove to Sports Authority to meet Erik. He drove us down to Kahalu'u and the Hamama trailhead. The hike up to Hamama to the banyan tree was fast maybe 35 minutes. We met David and Daniel at Waihe'e and started setting up shop. It got dark fast. Since I didn't have my camera it meant I had to be the runner. The runner has to climb up to the top of the falls and drop the glowsticks.  Climbing up was steep, but not too much of a problem. I dropped the glowsticks while everyone was trying to get the correct exposure setting. The falls is about 40 feet high.   Upper Hamama & Waihe'e Falls - July 5, 2014 Although it was great to see both the upper sections of Hamama and Waihe'e falls, the purpose of today's hike was to hike with Nate again. It is so good to see old hiking partners. My last hike with Nate was Bear Claw Right Fork. After that hike, he went to boot camp in Chicago and I haven't seen him until today.  Nate currently lives in San Diego and is in active duty military. He does not plan to come back to Hawaii. Today I took him to Hamama and Waihe'e falls, two waterfalls that are easy enough for both of us. However, the upper sections which I did with the group 7D takes a bit more hiking skills. We got to Hamama rather quickly and proceeded to the upper falls. It was somewhat slick, but with focus and determination, we got to the top of Hamama rather quickly. I knew Hamama was fed by a natural spring, but seeing it up close was pretty cool. It seems that the spring produces tons of water to make the waterfall...

  Hamama Falls & Waihe'e Falls - May 12, 2011                                       The last time I did Hamama Falls was in May of 2010. One year later, it was time to go again. This time, the focus was to get to Waihe'e Falls. Last time, Erik, Chris & I went to look for Waihe'e falls, but after 45 minutes of searching, we came up empty. Over the past year, I've been following hiking blogs, mainly Kaleo L. Island Trails and Josh S. 808 Goonies. I've also been following Wayde's World Poor Man's Guide  to Hawaii's You Tube videos. All of them have been to Hamama Falls and Waihe'e Falls. On their experiences, they marked the path to Waihe'e Falls. Kaleo Lancaster marked the trail to Waihe'e Falls with orange ribbons.
