Hiking Trails on Oahu

  Mo'ole Waterfalls - June 30, 2014 Initially, the plan was Lulumahu to Olympus, but with bad weather that was out. We had to figure out a plan b. Since we all have good knowledge of the area, waterfall options were at the top of the list. The two main options when your in Manoa or Nuuanu is the Manoa Waterfall Tour or Nuuanu Waterfall Tour/or Mo'ole Waterfalls.  This hike would be all OAG's, first time in a while we got 70% out on a hike. I remember when I was in 7D, if 50% of the crew was there, it would be considered a 7D hike.  But first things first. At the Pu'u Pia trailhead near the cemetery were only me, Bernice, Darren, Aprille, & Erik. We texted Allison and Daniel to see if they were willing to hike. Mililani-Waipio - April 10, 2014 Instead of doing our weekly run today, Erik and I decided to do a short hike near my mom’s house. The hike takes you to Kipapa Gulch and on what seems like military property. I told Erik, there are about 14 tunnels which may peak his interest. On my last scout mission, I walked on the road and passed about 14 tunnels ending up in thick California grass. I bushwhacked for about 20 minutes, but decided to turn around. The road appeared to lead under H2. I appropriately named the hike: H2 trail. While walking back I noticed another trail. After eyeballing it, it appeared to lead to Costcos. My goal today was to explore that trail, hopefully that would take us to Costcos Waipio. The trail is behind the baseball field. In Milville, (that’s what the kids call Mililani) the baseball field is referred to as Noholoa, named after some apartment development nearby. Behind the park is known as Cherry Hill. Kahana Ditch – June 23, 2013 If you’re a hiker who loves to hike to find things and not just enjoy a view or a waterfall, this is the hike for you. The infamous Waiahole Ditch starts in Kahana Valley, and that is where we were heading to today. The Waiahole Ditch! A manmade ditch/irrigation system that takes water from the windward side and brings it over to the leeward side for farmers to grow their crops. Apparently, this thing started in the early 1900s to grow sugar cane. The idea was to take water from the valleys of Waiahole, Waikane, and Kahana, use gravity to move it towards an area, then continue to use gravity and move it under the Ko’olaus to the leeward side. This unbelievable project cost over 2 million dollars to fund in 1916. I digress, the plan today was to start near the water tank, take a trail that led to Nakoa.
