Hiking Trails on Oahu

Chinaman's Hat - August 20, 2016 I never thought I could walk there, not even in my wildest dreams. Well, I dreamt about it, but it was more of a nightmare. I remember watching a video of Uncle Gary and his friends floating to the island and having a hard time. That video was not a good experience. But as things have it, when your in the presence of great people, we do great things.  I guess Darren's friend monitored the tide height throughout the month and notice that the tide was very low on this day.   Ka’a’awa Valley – April 27, 2013 This valley can be considered one of the finest the Ko’olaus have to offer. Don’t get me wrong, there are many beautiful valleys all over Oahu, but Ka’a’awa is one of the best. The valley is mainly used to showcase its beauty to tourist. The valley is also known for its movie props because many movies and tv shows were filmed here. I signed my family up for the Ka’a’awa 5k, a fun run which goes in a loop throughout the beginning part of the valley. To add sugar on top of this run, I joined my fellow OAG members as they would partake in this event. sitting down Ohuluhule beckons I wanted to do this run a few years ago, but it wasn’t until fellow OAG member Daniel asked us if we would enter the fun run as he is spreading the word for a friend. Chinaman’s Hat – July 10, 2012 I always thought that it was difficult to get to Chinaman’s Hat. However, while hiking with my fellow hiker’s, it is apparent that people swim there all the time. I also found out that during low tide, you can actually walk there. In contrast, there are stories of many people dying at Chinaman’s Hat. A few months ago, a group of military men went out to have some fun at Chinaman’s Hat. Unfortunately the tide got too rough and a few drowned. In a different story, someone fell off the trail while trying to get to the top of Chinaman’s Hat and was badly injured. These conflicting stories got me thinking that going to Chinaman’s Hat was a crap shoot. I started to think about the risk. All I wanted to do was to hike to the top. I did my research, looking at articles online and asking people in the hiking community about advice. My plan of attack was to kayak there during low tide.
