Hiking Trails on Oahu

Luluku Trail Clearing - August 13, 2017 Baron wanted to clear the stream that led to the Luluku Terraces. I told him it would be very difficult and may take a whole day. We projected an entire day and told everyone. He was game and so were the OAG's. Joining the hike today was Baron, Erik, Darren, David, Michelle, Bernice and I. The OG -- OAG's. We met at Hoomaluhia at 9am, but it took us 15 minutes to get ready to start.  We headed towards Luluku stream and encountered the hau. The newbies like Bernice and Michelle were like woah. We chipped away. There was surprisingly not that much hau. After about 1.5 hours of clearing, we got to the private taro fields and the tunnel. I thought it was over and this is what confused all of us. We had a lot more to go. I forgot that we had to go under both the H3 and Likelike. I even think DJ and Baron who joined me on the two previous clearings forgot too.  From the tunnel, we were under the H3 and took a wrong turn and had to bushwhack....

Pu'u Ma'eli'eli (David's Birthday Hike) - July 15, 2017 Today was David's 71st birthday. For his hike we did something easy or what we thought was easy. We took a scenic route that skirted the base of Ma'eli'eli. I've never taken this route before so it was going to be interesting.  We met a Koolau Shopping Center at 8:30am and walked on Kahekili Highway. We hiked up Ma'eli'eli ridge, but made a right at a junction which took us down to the marsh. Strawberry guava was in peak season and I took advantage of the harvest.  At the bottom, we encountered this cool looking dirt road. David said lots of crews film movies here. We sang happy birthday to David. Jana made a peanut butter and brownie to celebrate.   As we continued on, we took a wrong turn and ended up on Ma'eli'eli ridge. We topped out at the world class view. But since it was so hot, we decided to hang out under the shade for most of the time we were up there.  Going back was like...

  Oneawa Hills – November 30, 2011 I haven’t done an intermediate hike in a long time. The last one was Kahana Valley which was during the summer of 2011. Recently I’ve done super easy hikes or difficult hikes. Enter the Oneawa Hills. This hike holds many names; one name is Kokokahi Ridge, the other is Kawa’ewa’e, and of course the last one is called the Oneawa Hills. I like Oneawa Hills better, sounds like the Hawaiian cousin to the Hollywood Hills. Sean and I planned this hike one month ago and the only problem was to find time to hike it. Today was the day. We met at the Kaneohe Bayview Golf Course because I knew it would be a good place to meet. The parking lot is huge. From the golf course, Sean followed me to Lipalu Street. I parked my car on the street and hopped in Sean’s Jeep. He drove us to Kokokahi place. There was no parking near the trailhead, so he parked about ¼ mile from the trailhead. The trailhead is at the Friendship Garden. I must say that the trail is beautiful...
