Hiking Trails on Oahu

Pohakea - January 22, 2017 Baron was able to get access into Kunia Farms. I guess he has always longed to go back to the Pohakea Pass. As it stands, it probably is the most scariest hike I've been on and he admits that it was scary for him too. Maybe he wanted to see it in all of its glory, again? Who knows what the motivation was?  Baron was going to do recon of the area. He usually only invites his most trusted hikers, which is us, the OAG's. Mainly we are down for whatever and won't complain in the process. The goal today was to get to the base of the Pohakea Pass via an old Jeep Road. Then, we would contour and head up a ridge up to the summit and get to the top of the pass. Simple enough. Luluku Chutes - November 8, 2016 Baron wanted to explore and find the chutes way back in Luluku Valley a.k.a. Hoomaluhia. Today was election day, where we would soon find out who would be a 45th president of the United States, Trump or Clinton.  I voted for Hillary at 7 in the morning, it took a 1/2 hour to vote. (You know everyone in Mililani goes to an event 45 minutes before it starts). I went home and got ready to pick up Baron at his house. Today it would only be me and Baron. Nobody wants to do the hard work of trying to explore and track everything.  I parked at the visitors center and we were off. Bushwhacking was on the agenda. We would start off on the HTMC route when they hike Hoomaluhia-Likeke. Sooner than later, we made the right towards a water tank and tried to find our way to Luluku. Waialae Nui to Lanipo – June 5, 2013 Last year I tried and failed. Then Dave F. posted a successful attempt of Waialae Nui, and then Laredo and Quyen did it. Then it appeared no one did it for near a year, until recently when Jay and Ras did it. Where am I going with this? Simple. Do Waialae Nui! The plan today was for me to go up Lanipo, crossover on the Ko’olau Summit Ridge to the Waialae Nui Terminus (like I did last year), bushwhack the living daylights out of Waialae Nui Ridge, find a side trail down to the gulch, and then go up a side trail to reconnect with Lanipo to create a big loop. I was worried about the bushwhacking, but Jay told me there is a swath I could follow. I asked others if they wanted to go, but in the end, I was solo. I’ve done Lanipo twice, both times solo. Hau’ula Loa-Papali Uka – December 29, 2012 This trail is not to be confused with the Hau’ula Loop Trail. This route is for experienced hikers only. There are some dangerous spots, however until this trail gets cleared, bushwhacking is the only way to get pass this ridge. The goal today was for Marvin and I to start on Hau’ula Loop, and then veer off onto the Hau’ula Uka trail to a spot called Three Ribbons Pu’u. From there, the Hau’ula Loa trail begins. We would continue on the Hau’ula Loa ridge trail until Castle. From the Castle trail, we would go left until we hit the Castle-Papali Uka Junction. Then we would go down Papali Uka. I predicted this hike would be 8-10 hours. That would not be the case. This hike would take a total of 17 hours and 45 minutes to complete.
