Trying to find the Luluku Chutes, Big Ass Waterfall Chutes in Kaneohe

Luluku Chutes - November 8, 2016

Baron wanted to explore and find the chutes way back in Luluku Valley a.k.a. Hoomaluhia. Today was election day, where we would soon find out who would be a 45th president of the United States, Trump or Clinton.

I voted for Hillary at 7 in the morning, it took a 1/2 hour to vote. (You know everyone in Mililani goes to an event 45 minutes before it starts). I went home and got ready to pick up Baron at his house. Today it would only be me and Baron. Nobody wants to do the hard work of trying to explore and track everything.

I parked at the visitors center and we were off. Bushwhacking was on the agenda. We would start off on the HTMC route when they hike Hoomaluhia-Likeke. Sooner than later, we made the right towards a water tank and tried to find our way to Luluku. There was no trail, but we paralleled the freeway through a nice forest until we got to Luluku. It took about 1 hour, but from the banana patches we further progressed up the mountain. Baron felt it would be better if we followed the stream, so we did. We hit the first chute in about 30 minutes upstream. It had a lot of vegetation and didn't appear appealing at all. So we continued on to the next chute. Instead of backtracking, we contoured the mountain. It was a little steep and dangerous because of the loose, I mean very loose rocks. I think I scared Baron because I slipped many times.

In about 15 minutes we hit the next chute. At first appearance it looked junk, however, there was an opening to the left and a majestic 250 foot chute appeared. It was enticing, nice angle, steep drop, and interesting.

Baron was pretty happy and we decided that this would be a great hike if we took a group.

Going back, we went the way David and I went last summer. Someone or some group has been doing work on the terraces. The potential would be really amazing. Just like last time I was here, Baron and I hit the same damn problem. After the jeep road the trail ends and we had to bushwhack for 15 minutes. But it was cool, Baron did most of the work and we got out.
