Hiking Trails on Oahu

Poamoho-Schofield Waikane - November 11, 2017 Even though rain was in the forecast, Erik wanted to do his birthday hike up Poamoho and exit Schofield-Waikane. I was thinking about bailing not because I didn't want to hike, but because I had the Van Nolasco Half Marathon on Sunday. Darren was thinking the same thing, but he had it more difficult. He would need to be out by 3:30pm go work the UH game, and get ready for Van Nolasco.  I arrived at Erik's house at 5:45am. Erik was meeting Darren at the top of Wahiawa Heights to stage cars. Poamoho - April 3, 2016 Poamoho has always been in the Storied Category, why? Because it always which leaves the hiker wanting more. What a selfish bunch of hikers we are! When people ask me what the best hike on the island is, only one hike comes to mind ~ That's Poamoho. You ask any true hiker out there and the answer will be unanimous ~ Poamoho tops the list. If you ask someone who thinks they are a hiker and they say Makapu'u Lighthouse, they need to be schooled on hiking Oahu 101. This hike has it all, for one its short about 1 1/2 hours to the summit 2) the native plants all along the area 3) the view, considered one of the best on the island 4) landmarks Cline Memorial, one of the greatest hiking landmarks on this island 5) Poamoho cabin...there is more.  We had a big group today which needed 2 4WD trucks. Poamoho - April 19, 2014 I had another opportunity to go on what true hiker’s consider the best hike on the island. After hiking avidly for 4 years now, I consider Poamoho to be the best hike on the island of Oahu. There is no other hike on the island that offers a better hiking experience than Poamoho. This hike was previously scheduled on February 15th, but due to weather it was rescheduled for today. We had 26 people sign up for this event as ‘eldest HTMC member’ Fred Boll took on major responsibility in coordinating this hike. I picked up Erik at 7am to drive to the trailhead. Upon arriving at his house, I thought to myself, kinda early. As I picked Erik up, he text Daniel to see what the meet up time was ~ 8:30am. Poamoho – December 15, 2012 Not many hikes on this island can compete with Poamoho. The graded trail takes you through the heart of the Ko’olaus. Just imagine a place where no one can bother you because you are at least 10 miles away from civilization. The feeling is stupendous.  There are three climaxes of this hike 1) The Cline Memorial 2) Summit is one of the best on the island 3) Poamoho Cabin is a must see. Earlier in the month, I applied for a permit with the Division Land & Natural Resources (DLNR). They sent me an approval with the combo locks for the gates. We would have to go through three gates to access the trailhead. The day started at Erik’s house. There we met the crew for the day. Joining us were Darren, Katrina, Aprille, & Denise.
