Hiking Trails on Oahu

  Three Corners to King Kong - February 18, 2018 This hike can be considered under multiple categories. Other than a super hike, it can be under a storied hike, difficult hike, and secret hike.  This hike had all of the obstacles you'd want for exploration.  Baron initially cancelled this hike earlier in the week, but put it back on. We were to explore Makaha Valley, Baron's annual February thru March hiking schedule. His plan was to go up an unnamed ridge to Three Corners and crossover to King Kong and loop it. We were unsure what we were in for, could be overgrown terrain, sketchy rock faces, bad weather.  We met at Makaha Towers at 7am. Bernice drove Darren and I. Baron drove Ted and Denise. Pupukea to Laie – August 25, 2012   I was nervous about this hike, but knew we could complete it.   Recently a few crews have documented a trek from Pupukea to Laie. Chase, Cory, & crew did the hike in May and Kaleo and crew did the hike (to Malaekahana) in June of this year. Chase and crew did some trail markings and light clearing on their trek, making the going much easier for the rest of us.   This will also be 7D member Marvin’s final grinder hike to complete 96% of Ko’olau Summit (Pupukea to Makapuu), a feat well worth noting. After today, Marvin would just need to do the second leg of the Nuuanu Saddle (Notches to K1) and both sections of the Kalihi Saddle to complete the entire Ko’olau Summit.   Preparation for this hike was simple. Waiakeakua to Konahuanui (K2) – June 3, 2012 It was a long hike today. Not long as mileage wise, but long as in hours wise. The plan today was to hike up Waiakeakua ridge, summit, and meet up with Marvin and the big group he was guiding to Konahuanui.   It was only Steve and I making our way up Waiakeakua. We started one hour later than Marvin’s group because we felt that we would be faster to summit than his group. No matter how you time it, the hike always seems to take a little longer. Waiakeakua ridge was pioneered by two hikers with the initials BY and CY. I’ve hiked with BY already and it has been a pleasure knowing him. They spent ages trying to pave and clear that ridge; finally a few months ago they push through to the top and completed the Waiakeakua trail. The Waiakeakua trail starts on 7 bridges. Heleakala to Palikea – February 26, 2012 This hike was not only an adventure, but felt like a journey. There are some hiking routes on Oahu that take all day and Heleakala to Palikea is one of those hikes. My goal for this hike was to start in Nanakuli and hike to my house in Kapolei. That didn’t happen today; nevertheless, we achieved a different goal – a great experience that no one can take away. This hike is categorized in the super hike category not because of its length. I think being mentally prepared to do a long hike in one day has to be thought about before doing this hike. Marvin and I invited anyone and everyone we knew, however anybody and everybody had something going on. It was just Marvin and I.
