A Famous Landmark in Japan, but not so much in Hawaii

  The Hitachi Tree - October 25, 2014 Today we decided to go feed the ducks. That was my selling point to the kids to get them to come with me on this day. But my true intention was for them to take a picture in front of the Hitachi Tree. Every time I came to Moanalua Gardens, I always wondered why so many Japanese tourist wanted to take a picture in front of that tree. I decided to do some research and found that this tree is in fact famous in Japan and when the Japanese tourist come here, they make a trip to see that tree.  The tree is famous because it is the Hitachi Group's logo. It was shown in a commercial back in the 1970s and has remained part of the company logo ever since. Hitachi makes electronic equipment and vehicles as well as plans and creates industrial system. The tree is suppose to symbolize its ever expanding business. That is why it grew so wide. Also, the tree is deemed by the City and County of Honolulu as exceptional. I guess that means its a great tree....

Kahuku Shoreline Hike

  Kahuku Shoreline (James Campbell Wildlife Refuge) - October 12, 2014 There are some scenic walks on Oahu shorelines and this one is up at the top along with Lanikai. I haven't walked too much on the beach. I prefer not to. However, this hike has a lot to offer. Last year I did Kawela Bay, a  not so secret, secret bay left of Turtle Bay. This hike is to the right of Turtle Bay, highlighted by the James Campbell Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is home to a family of Nene Goose, the only Nene on the island of Oahu.  Today we hoped to find the Nene. Daniel put together this hike because Sarah was coming back from the mainland for one week and said she can only hike on a Sunday. We spent the week trying to get all OAG's to come, but in the end, Sarah bailed so we just had fun without her. We were also projected to have our Post Hike Meal at Tita's Grill where I was going to pound The Pounder ~ a massive burger almost a foot tall in height, 6 pieces of bacon, 4 cheeses, choke sau...
