Another Birthday Hike up Pupukea

Pupukea - April 1, 2017

This will be a short entry. I documented my hikes because it gives me a reminder of certain reference points needed on the trail. It gives time frames so I would know how long it was from point A to point B. Most of all, it told a story of my experience on the trail.

Six years have gone by. I have hiked so many trails. It has come to the point where I have done these hikes 6x already if not more.

Pupukea is no exception. Today was like any other day. The OAG's were going to celebrate my birthday which was awesome. I appreciate all they do for me.

We met at the trailhead at 9am. Joining today was David, Daniel, Erik, Aprille, Bernice, and Michelle. Daniel just got his new dog Hina and we will be going to the top of Pupukea which is called Pu'u Hina. While on Pupukea road we seen some major landslides. The road was literally falling apart. It was a scary site to behold.

There were at least 4 major breaks and I'm not sure what the army would do, but they have to repair very soon.

I've been trying to get into plants. While on the trail, I took out my John Hall book and went through it. I could still only identify a handful of plants. We saw halapepe which was cool. I could identify hapu'u ferns and kopiko. We tried to figure out some other plants, but had a hard time.

The trail was in great shape thanks to the Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club. At the summit, everyone sang Happy Birthday and Erik and Aprille got a chocolate chip cupcake for me.

The hike back seemed very fast for some reason. I think it was only 2 hours on the way back. Post hike meal was at Ted's Bakery. The food was good, nothing exceptional. I got a Bacon Burger. The bun fell apart as I was eating it. I was hungry though. I ate all my food and ate dessert.
